The municipality of Glendora is situated around twenty mile to the east of downtown Los Angeles. It stands at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in southern California. It’s population of 50,000 is employed in a number of industries, ranging from hospitality to heavy industry. The city is home to many beautiful buildings, spanning many years of architectural tastes and fads.
Mansions with sprawling land surrounding them are located close to more modest ranch houses. The early bungalows of the twentieth century stand side by side with modern developments, giving this beautiful place a very unique look. A common feature within the town is the gated community. There are several of these developments that all provide residents with secure, serviced housing estates that enjoy the luxury of constant security surveillance. Many of the luxurious homes in these communities have sold for many millions of dollars, making the city one of the most exclusive areas of Los Angeles.
Glendora celebrated one hundred years of being a city in 2011, although the its history goes back much further than that. Originally just a small settlement, the town was founded in 1887 by George Whitcomb. Whitcomb was a very successful businessman, having founded the hugely successful Whitcomb Locomotive Works in his native Illinois. The town gets its name from a combination of Whitcomb’s wife, Leadora, and the place his home was located – a glen of the San Gabriel Mountains.
The city is home to some beautiful, sprawling public parks that can be enjoyed by the general public. The parks are home to some very popular activities and organizations, including summer day camps, a nine-hole golf course and several golf-based activity and training centers. A number of locally administered events take place within the parks and are particularly popular with locals.
The transport system in the city is excellent. A very efficient and affordable bus service operates throughout the area and offers door-to-door services for the elderly residents of the city, as well as the disabled. The service is operated entirely by the city’s own administrators, meaning the cost of a one way trip anywhere within the city limits is only fifty cents.
There is also a very reasonably priced Glendora, CA taxi cab service that provides access to all the main parts of the city. This is a great way to get around for visitors in particular. Most of the cab drivers live and work in Glendora, so they will be able to advise their passengers on the best things to do and see during a visit.
The Glendora Country Club is home to one of the most beautiful golf courses in North America. This exclusive development is set against the majestic backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains. The course itself is a regular stop-off for many professional players as they look to practice before the next major PGA Tour competition.
Glendora enjoys all the quaintness of a small town, while being big enough to offer residents the very best facilities. Renowned for its excellent public school system, the area is very popular with business people as it provides an excellent commuting distance to downtown Los Angeles. Residents can get a real taste of rural living, with the trappings of modern city life never too far away.
